Owens Corning Roof Replacement & Custom Patio Addition
Complete Exterior Upgrade Designed for Beauty, Comfort, and Long-Term Protection in Sugar Land, TX
Project Background
A 24-year-old roof on a Sugar Land home doesn’t usually fail all at once; it simply reaches the end of its lifespan. After two decades of Houston-area heat, heavy rain, humidity, and storms, the original shingles on this property had reached the end of their useful life. The wear was visible, and it was only a matter of time before the aging system started causing problems.
The homeowner wanted a roof that would improve the home’s protection, elevate its appearance, and add long-term value to the property. During the consultation, she also mentioned a persistent frustration with the rear patio: without proper coverage, the space was nearly unusable during rain or intense summer heat, which in Sugar Land is most of the year.
Ace Construction Services designed a full exterior project that solved both problems in a single scope of work: a premium roof replacement and a custom seamless gable patio addition that blends naturally into the existing roofline.

Roofing & Exterior Issues Identified
Our inspection identified several conditions that made full replacement the right call, along with the exterior issue the homeowner had been working around for years:
- Original 24-year-old roofing system at the end of its expected lifespan
- Aging shingles with visible weather-related wear and reduced performance
- Older pipe flashing components susceptible to future leaks
- Rear patio without adequate coverage — unusable in rain or direct sun
- Excessive sun and water exposure on the rear exterior
- Drainage and water management needed improvement on the rear slope
- Opportunity to meaningfully improve curb appeal and long-term property value

// OUR WORK PROCESS
Why These Upgrades Were Chosen
Every material and upgrade on this project was selected to deliver long-term performance and a finished result that looks as though it was always part of the home’s design. Browse the full range of residential roof types we install, including all available shingle lines.
Owens Corning Duration® Shingles in Williamsburg Gray
Duration shingles were selected for their dimensional appearance, durability, and ability to hold up under Houston-area weather conditions over the long term. The Williamsburg Gray colorway was chosen to complement the home's exterior and give the property a clean, high-end finished look. For a Sugar Land home looking to improve both protection and curb appeal, Duration® Shingles offer a strong combination of performance and aesthetics.
Synthetic Underlayment
Synthetic underlayment was installed beneath the shingles to provide an added layer of protection against moisture intrusion. In a climate with Houston's rainfall volume, underlayment quality is an important part of the overall system; it's the secondary barrier if water ever finds a way past the shingles.
Owens Corning RIZERidge® System
The RIZERidge system was installed to provide enhanced ridge protection and a cleaner, more dimensional finish at the roof peak. Ridge areas take direct wind and rain exposure, and an upgraded ridge system is a meaningful improvement over standard alternatives on a full replacement project.
GAF Master Flow™ Pivot Pipe Boots
Pipe penetrations are among the most common long-term leak sources on residential roofs. Original pipe flashings crack and deteriorate from constant UV exposure and temperature cycling, especially in Texas climates. The Pivot Boot design creates a tighter, more durable seal around each penetration and holds up significantly better over time than traditional pipe flashings.
Custom Seamless Gable Patio Addition
The rear patio addition was the most transformative part of the project. A gable-style patio structure was designed and built to integrate seamlessly into the home's existing roofline, with upgraded drip edge details and an integrated roofing transition that gives the addition a built-in appearance rather than an afterthought. The result is a covered outdoor space that the family can actually use year-round, regardless of rain or summer heat.
New 6-Inch Gutters, Downspouts & Diverter System
The new gable patio addition created additional roof surface area, which required a properly sized drainage system to handle the increased water flow. New 6-inch seamless gutters and downspouts were installed along the rear section of the home, and diverters were positioned in key locations to redirect runoff efficiently toward the existing French drain areas along the side of the property. The result is a drainage system designed to handle the rear slope's water volume without backing up or pooling near the foundation.
The Results
The completed project gave the homeowner a fully upgraded roofing system and a custom outdoor living space that transformed the rear exterior of the property. The new Owens Corning Duration roof in Williamsburg Gray delivers a clean, high-end finished appearance while providing the long-term protection a Sugar Land home needs. The custom gable patio addition, designed to blend into the existing roofline, created a functional outdoor space that the family can enjoy year-round.
The upgraded gutter and diverter system ties the whole project together by moving water efficiently away from the rear slope and toward the existing drainage infrastructure, reducing runoff risk and protecting the rear of the home long-term.
Full written documentation of all materials installed, manufacturer warranty information, and a workmanship warranty from Ace were provided at project completion. To keep the new system performing at its best, we offer a roof maintenance program for homeowners looking to protect their investment over the long term.
